Virtual Simulation Projects
Construction of virtual simulation experimental teaching projects (on the municipal level and above)
According to the actual needs of experimental teaching, the Innovation Field carries out the construction of virtual simulation experimental teaching projects with the help of advanced information technology, in order to promote experimental teaching resources that combine virtual and real activities. The project of Virtual Experiment on Camera Language under the charge of Associate Professor Liu Zhejun of the Innovation Field was approved as Shanghai Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Project in 2019, and is currently recommended by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to participate in the selection of National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Projects.
The project supports the expansion of Tongji design disciplines in digitalization. It focuses on the prevalent core problem of experimental teaching in camera language in domestic universities, which lies in the limitation of experimental exercises and hinders the elevation of the students’ abilities. The project aims to serve a broader group of students, to enhance the quality and effect experimental teaching. It digs deep into the study of camera language and contributed to the development of the Camera Language Virtual Experiment System, which is able to guide students through carefully designed learning process with attention-grabbing interactive procedures in completing camera language virtual experiments, so that students will be able to deepen their theoretical understanding of camera language and transform the knowledge into the ability of artistic creation in a variety of visual creation activities. The system also provides teachers with more effective tools and methods for the teaching of camera language.
The Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching System is inclusive as well as advanced. It can be run in a browser on a regular computer or in VR on high-end devices. Besides meeting the needs of students in and out of class, the system is also available to the public, allowing both professional and non-professional users to improve their aesthetic level and visual creation ability.
The interactive program of this system is developed independently by teachers and students, and Tongji University owns the complete copyright to the software. The project has now been deployed to the iLab-X National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Project Sharing Platform. Since its official launch in October 2019, it has been viewed by nearly 20,000 people and used by 10,000 to complete experiments, and is highly rated among users.
With the basis of the current construction, the Innovation Field will continue to build up virtual simulation teaching projects in the aspects of improving existing projects and developing new projects. For existing projects, free and easy customization of user content, bilingual version and international promotion are planned to be completed within five years. In addition, the Innovation Field actively develops virtual simulation teaching programs such as Virtual Simulation Experiment of Ergonomics, Virtual Simulation Experiment of Exhibition Design and Virtual Simulation Experiment of Urban Science. Experimental simulation teaching projects will help teachers and students with experimental teaching of virtual man-machine engineering tests, low-cost trial-and-error design of large-scale exhibition events and design interventions based on supporting evidence. The centre will continue to apply for virtual simulation experimental teaching projects on the above-stated basis in Shanghai and at the national level.
